The Kingston telephone exchange had fallen into a state of dis-repair and was on the London Borough of Kingston “At Risk” register. Our works included a total overhaul of the external envelope and the internal fabric.

The ground floor was reinforced with 30 tonnes of steelwork on new localised foundations, the internal finishes were restored including the main exchange room which had Victorian hand made ceramic tiles under the plaster, which was removed and a sympathetic restoration of the original tiles was undertaken.

Replacement handmade tiles were sourced and installed to bring this chamber back to it’s original condition. All the external Crittall windows were repaired and overhauled and left in a state of good repair including replacement glass and redecoration.

The external Brickwork and Stonework was DOFF cleaned and repointed where required. The Roof was stripped and recovered using new Westmoreland and Welsh Slate as per the original build.
